Pollution and Climate

One of FWA Foundation main goals is to tackle the many issues that surround pollution and climate in the country. Below you will see Liberia's beautiful shores as well its dirty laundry.

Brownell Public School Update

I know you haven't heard from us in a while, although we are having a great time over here we have also been very hard at work. We have made two trips to Brownell Public School so far and our first order of business was for each student to have their feet traced in order to determine their shoe size. Although this definitely was a task we were successful in getting 173 prints. I will be bringing them with me when I return to the States on the 28th of this month. Our goal is to be able to get each student a decent pair of shoes they can wear to school each day (they ALL had on flip flops). This is a task the fundraising or community service committee can brainstorm about. Next, we delivered a list of extracurricular clubs to the teachers so students may be able to sign up for their club of interest. The clubs include Sports, Farming, Art, Health, Spelling, Math, and Language arts (other ideas are encouraged). I have attached some pictures of the school, students, and classrooms which are in dire need of decent chairs, tables, blackboards, as well as a paint job (green and white paint). We also found that there is an extreme shortage of teachers. The seven teachers that are employed make about $3,000 Liberian Dollars(LD) a month ($70 LD at $1 US) where volunteer teachers make $1,000 LD a month. We intend to meet with the Ministry of Education in order to get directives as to how we can best assist the school.
